SITE MENTOR
The Door Campaign (TDC) enhances quality of life by opening doors to resources for youth affected by generational poverty in the Pittsburgh region.
General Position Summary
School-based site mentors will oversee the delivery of our Aquaponics and Sustainability Program at designated TDC school partner sites. The primary function of the site mentor position is to facilitate effective program delivery by providing on-site supervision of program logistics. The site mentor will act as a critical communication and leadership liaison between program teachers and TDC’s Senior Site Coordinator. They must act as a competent representative of TDC, operating with a friendly and flexible yet objective-oriented manner while on site, building relationships with students, teachers, and school staff, and demonstrating a commitment to quality of programs and the ability to function effectively within the school environment. TDC is seeking a seasonal, part-time staff available September 2018-June 2019 averaging 20-30 hours per week.
Site mentor reports to: Senior Site Coordinator, Ashley Rodrigo
Primary responsibilities of the Site Mentor include (but are not limited to):
Classroom
Train and support teachers in maintenance of the aquaponics system and assist with delivery of weekly programming according to TDC’s Aquaponics and Sustainability Curriculum
Assist teachers with program set-up and clean-up efforts: making sure materials are available and distributed to teachers and that materials/data are collected when necessary (i.e. document student attendance, pre- and post-surveys, and completed forms)
Support and mentor students, connecting them with outside community resources
Communications/Logistics
Communicate weekly with teachers regarding upcoming lessons, materials, aquaponics system needs, and any visits from outside parties
Request feedback from teachers after each lesson and record in weekly updates
Administrative
Maintain weekly communication with Senior Site Coordinator and send weekly updates outlining student and lesson highlights, upcoming tasks and needs, and general notes
Attend all required TDC staff and site meetings as well as trainings
Responsible for obtaining and maintaining approved materials for programming
Assisting TDC staff members with other duties as assigned
Characteristics
Attentive to details and general organization
Reliable when working independently and collaboratively
Experience serving a diverse groups of students, teachers, and community stakeholders
Experience/interest in science education
Must have High School Diploma/G.E.D. and maintain current PA Act 33/34 clearance. Bachelors/Associates degree or 1-2 years relevant experience preferred.
Access to a car is strongly preferred
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
